Starhawk in Fort Lauderdale
|
Thursday, November 13, 2003, Starhawk will be holding an outdoor rally in Fort Lauderdale to raise more than a little magic concerning the Free Trade of the Americas (FTAA) meeting in Miami the following week. Gathering at 7:30 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Lauderdale, a bonfire will be lit, a circle will be cast, and Starhawk will tell us something of the international forces at work. Starhawk is traveling from Tallahassee, through Gainesville and onto Miami raising awareness about FTAA. FTAA, or, Free Trade in the Americas, is the ongoing effort to unite the economies of the Americas into a single free trade area. Impact will extend to environmental protections, the allocation of skilled jobs, global warming, and local government regulations. Trade ministers will meet for a five-day business forum November 17-21, Monday through Friday, in Miami, FL. Starhawk, veteran of progressive movements and deeply committed to bringing the techniques and creative power of spirituality to political activism, travels internationally teaching magic, the tools of ritual, and the skills of activism. Additionally, she is the author or coauthor of nine books, including The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess, long considered the essential text for the Neo-Pagan movement, and the now-classic ecotopian novel The Fifth Sacred Thing. Her works have been translated into German, Danish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Japanese. Her essays are reprinted across the world, and have been included in numerous anthologies. This event is one in a series coordinated over the Internet using webpages, email, and list servers. The Fort Lauderdale rally is sponsored by MoonPath CUUPS (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans) and cosponsored by the Everglade Moon Local Council of the Covenant of the Goddess.
